The Root was the family home of Tuck Underbank, located in Woody Hollow. Like the homes of many Siven Warrows, it was an underground burrow sized for Warrows and inconvenient to other species, except for the Chakka.
The original Root was destroyed during the invasion of the Boskydells during the Winter War. King Galen's men later rebuilt the Root, but made some modifications to the original structure according to Tuckerby's wishes. Since he had befriended humans and Elves during his travels, he had them rebuild the Root with a higher roof and doorways that would allow humans to comfortably navigate it.
By the time of Peregrin Fairhill, the Root was still a private residence, but was also used as a museum for various historical artifacts related to Tuck.
- The Root resembles Bag End, the home of the Baggins family in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.
